Judas In Chains

Chains - Judas In ChainsI began writing this song almost two years ago, and recently found the almost finished lyrics. I spent some time this week re-writing the lyrics, and also spent some time re-working the music. I think it’s pretty close to being finished, and hope to have a rough cut (acoustic only?) recorded by next week. If there’s any interest, maybe I’ll post the rough cut…

Judas in Chains

VERSE
Every man born’s got to walk a line.
It’s hard to walk a straight line all of the time.
Stray too far – you go down in flames!

You do your time and they set you free
Then you find that friends are just a memory.
The man is changed, but the name’s the same – Judas in chains.

CHORUS
Judas in chains,
Judas in chains,
Like a man who’s branded with the mark of Cain – Judas in Chains.

I owe more dough than I’ll ever earn;
Been taught more lessons than I’ll ever learn.
Been down more back alleys than I care to name – Judas in Chains.
(I live in shadows with my shame and pain – Judas in chains.)

CHORUS – SOLO – Over verse & Chorus

CHORUS

Cast out, spit on, hounded, and cursed,
Beaten and bound like a dog in the dirt.
The new dawn rises but each day’s the same – Judas in chains.

CHORUS 2X – OUTRO/SOLO

Alternate Verse

I get up in the morning, try to do my best.
Hit the ground running – still my life’s a mess.
Yeah, I’ve made mistakes – no one else to blame.
